Colt Commando GAU-5/A/A US Air Force Retro 629 Re-issue semi-automatic

The US Air Force Commando Returns.  Known as the GAU-5/A/A, this Commando carbine is a collector’s item to be had. This Retro Classic Carbine is built to the Original Colt Model 629 specifications from the 1960s as adopted by the US Air Force. The 11.5″ Barrel has an extended flash hider designed to replicate the original moderator that was so iconic for this model. Colt cut no corners, reproducing the original Vinyl-Acetate coated Aluminum Buttstock and reproducing the US Property Marked rollmarks. This is a true collectible that’s as comfortable on the range as it will be in an enthusiast’s display.

This is part of Colt’s Vietnam Reto / Reissue series that also includes the XM177 Commando and the M16A1.  This rifle is a modern production rifle built to the Original Colt Model specifications. The A1 style fixed front and rear sights this classic system has will be very familiar to old shooters. The A1 pistol grip, polymer hand guard and collapsible stock provide you with the comfort and control you would come to expect from this platform. This AR-15, modern sporting rifle variant, would be just as comfortable sitting in a safe, hanging on a wall, or out on the range ringing steel targets

The upper receiver is that 723 look, just in case you want to take it apart and build a Gordon carbine clone.  But, don’t.

Produced until about 1970, Colt Commandos served in various special forces groups and even with the British SAS, even making an appearance in the Falklands War. Replicas of Colt Commando XM177 Carbine’s have also been popular in the movies and television
