Mk12 Mod H 16″ Holland RECCE rifle from PRI – Precision Reflex

PRI originally supplied the US Navy at NSWC Crane with the round forearm free floating handguard for the SPR rifle, which became the Mk12 Mod0.  Crane had originally produced the Mk12 upper receivers from commercial parts providers, like Precision Reflex.  At the beginning of the War on Terror, when M4 parts were in short supply for regular ground forces, Crane was forced to take out of mothballs M16 A1 lower receivers to mate to the custom uppers that Crane built.  Later versions of the Mk12 were found with lower receivers from Colt, Armalite, LMT and regular issue M4.

The Mod H, or “Holland RECCE rifle” was introduced after the Mk12 Mod0 and Mod1 rifles, and the name is credited to Master Sargent Steve Holland, who was part of the group that developed the SPR rifle.  The Holland RECCE rifle was was a retrofit upper of the Mod 0 with the Gen3 round hanguards.  Originally, the loner Swan sleeve rail on the Mod 0 was going to removed to further reduce weight, but ARMS did not have enough #22 high rings, so PRI created the shorter RECCE rail to replace the original Swan Sleeve.  The original barrels were Noveske made with the SPR profile in rifle length gas system.  Holland and John Noveske collaborated on the RECCE plans, and later RECCE rifles went on to use the Noveske barrel while the Mod Holland eventually opted back to Douglas barrels found on the other Mk12 rifles.

This Mark 12 Mod H for Holland is built with PRI’s Retro Gen III, which is most representative of the 16″ Holland upper receiver groups.

PRI presents a commercial interpretation of the Mod H, using many of the important original components, and substituting commercially available or proprietary hardware to provide the shooter with a balance of a historically military correct clone rifle and a very nice price point to allow a larger audience to appreciate the Mk12 rifle.  The Holland version has become increasing popular with clone enthusiasts and precision rifle shooters in general, as the 16″ platform and folding back-up sights allow for a shorter, more nimble and slightly lighter platform than the Mk12 Mod 0 or the Mod 1 rifles with 18″ barrels.

This rifle comes tested by PRI and ready to shoot 5.56mm NATO ammo.  Charlie’s recommends 77 grain Black Hills or Federal.  The rifle is equipped with a 16″ Douglas 416 stainless steel barrel with a fitted bolt and commercial carrier, flat-top receiver, with a Gen3 PRI carbon fiber black handguard. Allen Engineering SPR (Ops, Inc) brake and collar are standard, and profiled correctly to accept the Allen Engineering AEM-5 / Ops Inc #12 suppressor. The system also comes with a Gen III Rifle length carbon fiber free float forearm in FDE finish and a full length Picatinny top rail. The rifle barrel is Cerekoted in FDE, like the rest of the rifle, and chambered for 5.56 NATO ammunition.  The lower is a PRI branded forged lower. Both the upper and lower receiver are Cerekoted in FDE.  The milspec lower parts and black buffer tube include a B5 FDE SOPMOD buttstock and front and rear folding back-up flip-up iron sights from PRI in black oxided stainless steel.
